Repair Explanations
Common Faults by Brand: What We See Most in the Workshop
5 February 20267 min read
After thousands of repairs, patterns emerge. None of these make a car 'bad' — they're just the things worth checking as mileage climbs.
VW group (VW, Audi, SEAT, Škoda): timing chain tensioners on older 1.4 TSIs, water pumps, and DSG gearbox services that get skipped. BMW: timing chain wear on the N47 diesel, EGR coolers, and rear suspension bushes.
Ford: clutch and flywheel wear on the Fiesta/Focus, wet belt engines needing timely belt changes — do not skip these. Vauxhall: coil packs and cooling system parts on older petrol engines.
The common thread? Almost all of these are affordable if caught early and expensive if ignored. A diagnostic scan plus an honest inspection tells you where your car stands.
